What to see in Cagliari, from monuments to beaches

Cagliari, the pulsating heart of Sardinia, is an all-year-long popular journey destination because of it's numerous sights. The city has a very beautiful beach and an active historic city center reflected by monuments, churches and museums spread all over the town. Casteddu, as the city is called in Sardinian language, is perfect for all kinds of vacation.

The Poettol beachis located in the city and easy to reach weather by car or by public transportation. You can also make it a lovely destination for your bike tour. Inevitable is a walk along the beach promenade after sunset where bars with live music alternate with karaoke, restaurants and discos over about 4km, corresponding to the length of the beach. If you prefer lonely bays, choose Calamosca, near by the Poetto as an inside recommendation. The clear blue water and soft sand is the Cagliarians' greatest proud.

While visiting the old center of the town it is easy to get lost in the charming roads of the quarter Marina. The Castello quarter is a famous quarter because it used to be the residence for the aristocrats and administrators of Cagliari. From here you can visit the Bastione di Saint Remy, a fortification built in the 19th century. From this attraction you have a fantastic view over the entire capital.

In the same area, you don't want to miss the Cattedrale di Santa Maria that combines the Romanesque style with the Baroque and Neo-Romanesque harmoniously.
